Wow! Just -- wow!

It's nothing less than a fascist takeover of U.S. society.

Click here for an article by Robert Reich at Substack entitled "The Fine Print of Trump Fascism." Believe me, it's scary. Reich says "The Trump regime is taking over every major institution in America."

Trump is exercising control over institutions and corporations merely with the threat of punishment if they don't move in the direction Trump wants them to. He and his regime remain out of the limelight, behind the scenes, while the leaders of these institutions and corporations toe the MAGA line, lest Trump punish them. He doesn't need to exercise his power (with all the media condemnation that would bring); he merely has to threaten to use it, and those under his control carry out the Trump agenda.

On July 2, 2024, just about a year ago, president of the right-wing Heritage Foundation Kevin Roberts told the listeners of Steve Bannon’s War Room webcast: “[W]e are going to win. We’re in the process of taking this country back.” Roberts pointed to the Supreme Court’s decision in Donald J. Trump v. United States the day before giving the president absolute immunity for committing crimes while engaging in official acts.

“That Supreme Court ruling yesterday on immunity is vital, and it's vital for a lot of reasons,” Roberts said, adding that the nation needs a strong leader because “the left has taken over our institutions.” “[W]e are in the process of the second American Revolution,” he said, “which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Roberts was the man who organized Project 2025, the blueprint for a new kind of government dictated by a right-wing strongman. Creating that new government would require a president willing to act illegally, stripping the secular language of civil rights from public life, packing the government with loyalists, ending the social safety net, killing business regulations, and purging American institutions of all but right-wing ideologues.

When Americans learned about Project 2025, they hated it. An NBC News poll from September 2024 showed that only 4% of Americans saw the project favorably. Even among Republicans, that number climbed only to 7%. For those identifying as MAGA Republicans, the number rose to just 9%.

So Trump and his campaign advisors denied that he had anything to do with the plan. “I know nothing about Project 2025,” he wrote on social media in July. “I have no idea who is behind it.”

And yet six months into the second Trump administration, on the sixtieth anniversary of the law that symbolized the modern American state by establishing Medicare and Medicaid, it’s clear we are indeed in a revolution designed to destroy the government we have known in favor of the radical right-wing government envisioned by those who wrote Project 2025.

It's frightening. This regime has 2.5 years to go before the next presidential election. The harm it has already done to the American republic has been severe; how bad will it be by then? Even if an anti-Trump government is elected, how long will it take to reverse the damage?

Trump's outrage: Epstein is taking people!

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble copying Twitter posts to this blog. You'll have to copy the code below:

Open a new window, and copy the code into your address bar. That will open the post in Twitter; I don't know what will happen if you don't have a Twitter account.

This used to be easy to do, and I've posted dozens of tweets; I hope it becomes easy again. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong; if so, I hope I can figure it out.

Anyway, Trump had claimed that he booted Epstein from Mar-a-Lago because of his "disturbing behavior." Pressed further, Trump explained that the behavior he found objectionable was Epstein's poaching of Trump's employees from Mar-a-Lago. The interviewer asks if some of those employees were young women; Trump admits that yes, they were, and adds that the girls were Trump's employees in the spa. Always empathetic and sensitive, Trump goes on to brag about how great his spa is, and then excoriates Epstein for his unforgivable behavior of poaching girls from Trump, including Virginia Giuffre.

The video doesn't go into the back story, that Virginia was coaxed away from Mar-a-Lago by Ghislaine Maxwell, who was a regular visitor and a close friend of Trump's. Virginia was sexually abused by Epstein and Maxwell, and later became an outspoken advocate for victims of sexual abuse; she committed suicide on April 25, 2025, at the age of 41.
