Outstanding! He's a Republican, of course, so he's not going to be advocating policies that are "progressive" or "liberal." However, I don't think I can come up with the name of a Republican that I think would be a better choice.
Romney is a solid, reasonable, moderate guy. And just a few days ago, the front-runner appeared to be Rudy Giuliani! Trump's selection of Romney would go a long way to helping him look less like a bomb-thrower and more like a sensible, level-headed guy (Trump? What is this?)
It wouldn't help him with his base; the guys chanting "Drain the swamp" wouldn't be happy. And since he seems to be moderating on the wall (no mention recently), "repeal and replace" of Obamacare, and prosecution (persecution) of Hillary, he's on shaky ground as it is.
Of course he hasn't appointed Romney yet; we'll see.
