I've just discovered a cool new feature in Firefox 4 -- the Bookmarks Toolbar. I have a notebook, so I don't like to clutter up my screen with a lot of toolbars; a bigger screen would be better. But Firefox 4's new interface is very clean, so I can afford to use a quarter-inch of my screen real estate for such a useful feature.
If you click on your "Bookmarks" icon, one of the items is "View Bookmarks Toolbar". Click on this line, and you'll have created a new toolbar at the top of your screen (it'll be the bottom bar -- at the bottom of the top bars!). The toolbar is blank except for a "Bookmarks" icon on the right-hand side.
Click on one of the bookmarks in your list, and it will open. Highlight and copy (Control-C) the "http://" line in your address bar. Now that address is in your clipboard. Right-click anywhere on your new empty toolbar, and select "Paste". Bingo! You've now got an item on your Bookmarks Toolbar you can click for instant access.
You're not done yet, though. Your new item will be named something like "http://huffingtonpost.com/"; not too many of those will fill up your toolbar., so'll you'll want to compress it.
Right-click on your new item and click "Properties". The long URL, the address, will appear on the first line at the top, "Name", as well as the second line, "Location". The "Location" line needs to contain the full address, so don't modify that one. But you can change the top line, "Name", to something shorter -- "HuffPo", for instance. That shrinks the area that your new item covers on your Bookmarks Toolbar.
