The Iraq War, 15 Years Out

Click here for Charlie Pierce's article in Esquire, "15 Years. More Than 1 Million Dead. No One Held Responsible," with the subtitle "The War in Iraq's latest anniversary passed in all-American silence."

Charlie points out that although many people call it a blunder, or a tragic mistake, not many nowadays are calling it what it was: a crime. And the criminals are walking around among us, rehabilitated. Bush recently appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, dancing and discussing his paintings.

Charlie points out that "On Tuesday, one of that war’s most baroque cheerleaders, former general Ralph Peters, announced that he was leaving Fox News because he had suddenly discovered that it was 'a propaganda machine.'” And Peters received huge general approbation -- apparently his many sins of the past are now to be forgiven because he has suddenly turned against Fox, after years of his extreme right-wing nuttery as a regular Fox contributor.

According to Charlie:
"The results are in. Iraq never recovered. Syria devolved into civil war. We got closer than ever to the inhumane regime in Saudi Arabia, now engaged in mass slaughter in Yemen with weapons we supplied, because there’s never been a problem with that before. And the most remarkable result of all is that almost nobody paid any real price for their role in this nightmarish escapade."
