Click here for an article listing a bunch of the lavish gifts of travel, private aircraft, and luxury resorts which are the life of Clarence Thomas. The article is at ProPublica, titled "Clarence Thomas' 38 Vacations: The Other Billionaires Who Have Treated the Supreme Court Justice to Luxury Travel, by Brett Murphy and Alex Mierieski.
Like clockwork, Thomas’ leisure activities have been underwritten by benefactors who share the ideology that drives his jurisprudence. Their gifts include:
At least 38 destination vacations, including a previously unreported voyage on a yacht around the Bahamas; 26 private jet flights, plus an additional eight by helicopter; a dozen VIP passes to professional and college sporting events, typically perched in the skybox; two stays at luxury resorts in Florida and Jamaica; and one standing invitation to an uber-exclusive golf club overlooking the Atlantic coast.
Billionaires Tony Novelly, Wayne Huizenga, David Sokol, and Harlan Crow are all right-wing Republicans, and all met Thomas (surprise, surprise!) after his appointment to the Supreme Court.
Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous! There are detailed descriptions of the opulence Thomas's Supreme Court position has brought him. (Justice Elena Kagan turned down an offered gift of bagels and lox from old high school friends at a reunion because of the appearance of possible impropriety -- what a sucker!)
